Miguel Penagos is another one of Sequoia’s behind the scenes superheroes. He has served as our fearless accountant since 2018. Miguel earned his Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Financial Management Services from California State University, East Bay. At Sequoia, Miguel works hard reconciling accounts, entering journal entries to help keep financial reports updated, creating new projects in the system, helping project managers with budget related questions, and putting together ad-hoc reports.

When asked what his favorite part about working at Sequoia is, Miguel replied: “the flexibility and comradery with coworkers. “ Just like our biologists in the field, our hard working office staff needs to stay fueled up throughout the day- Miguel’s favorite office snacks include: chips and fruit bars. Speaking of the office, when asked if he has a favorite memory or story working at Sequoia, Miguel described a memorable day when “he went on a camping trip with the sequoia crew.” Out of all the extraordinary animals with whom we share this planet, Miguel feels he most identifies with the wolf because he is loyal and protector, he likes to work with a pack to get things done, and he is very family oriented.

When he is not hard at work with Sequoia, Miguel enjoys many hobbies and pastimes such as training jiu jitsu, playing pool, and watching movies. Miguel’s favorite place in the world to enjoy nature is the beach because “it gives him peace to watch the sea.”

If Miguel were not working in accounting and finance, he would likely pursue an alternate career in teaching mathematics because he finds joy when he is able to help people find the correct answer to numerical problems.
