In support of the San Mateo County Parks Department’s Kings Mountain Road Fuel Reduction project at Huddart County Park, Sequoia provided a biological monitor to complete rare plant surveys in advance of fuel reduction activities.
The project will maintain and improve the existing overstory canopy while reducing or eliminating ladder, dead, and exotic understory fuel. The project crosses several vegetation types including a Redwood/Douglas fir forest, Oak Woodland, and Manzanita Coastal Chapparal. Sequoia’s botanist performed surveys for Kings Mountain manzanita, the primary species of interest, as well as other rare, threatened, and endangered plants with the potential to occur in the project area.
