• NORTH ORINDA SHADED FUEL BREAK

The North Orinda Shaded Fuel Break Project is constructing a 14-mile long, 1,515-acre fuel break along the northern border of Moraga, Orinda, and Lafayette.

Divided into a total of 55 smaller “treatment units”, this project is employing a variety of specific fuel management techniques including understory clearing, tree pruning, brush clearing, chipping, mowing, and select tree removal. Sequoia works closely with fire crews to develop fire prescriptions, as well as permit interpretation and recommendations for communication with USFWS and CDFW. Working in a variety of conditions, Sequoia biologists perform biological monitoring during construction, provide environmental training to fire crews and vegetation removal contractors and perform habitat assessment surveys and sensitive species surveys.
